Bonjour’, ‘Ciao’, ‘Bom Dia’ are a few of the greetings to be heard at register time from Reception to Year 6. Being able to communicate in another language is a valuable life skill.

Here is our school's French Long Term Plan.

Here at St Mary’s, French is taught throughout the school with ‘Little Languages la jolie ronde’, songs, games and stories in Key Stage 1.

In Key Stage 2, the 4 skill strands oracy writing, reading and intercultural understanding are taught using Rigolo, Early Start French and Step up to Languages.

At Christmas, Years 5 and 6 perform the Nativity Play in French and European Christmas traditions are explored and enjoyed by the classes.

Multi-cultural festivals form part of the curriculum throughout the school including our Multi Faith Day.

We have recently started a project linking with a beach.

Native speakers are encouraged to share their language, food and culture.

We are very proud that we have been awarded the Linguamarque Bronze award.
