English: this half term we are starting to look at more complex sounds such as “ow” and “igh”. These can be tricky and so they need a lot of repetition. Please ask your child what sound they have been looking at each day and then think of some words which contain them.

Please read with your child every day. It need be only 10 minutes, but it is essential for your child’s progress. It really makes a big difference!

We are practising hand writing and we are hoping that more children will be ready to write a simple sentence.

In Maths, we are continuing with number recognition and matching to sets of objects. We are learning to recall number facts up to 5 + 5 and looking at addition and subtraction.

Our topic in Science is animals, beginning with pets and how to look after them. The children are welcome to bring in photos of their own pets.

Our RE topic is “Getting to know Jesus”: knowing that He has great love for us and looking at how we can show that love in return. We will be finding out about some of the miracles that Jesus performed e.g. changing the water into wine at the wedding at Cana and curing the ten lepers.

P.E. is on Monday and Thursday afternoons, as last term. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school on those days.

In Art, we will be working on colour (e.g. mixing to make different colours) and texture. The children will be building models, such as a home for toy animals. We will probably be asking for clean boxes etc. for junk modelling a little later in the term.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best wishes
