Welcome to the Reception Class Page
Our ‘Let’s Celebrate’ topic was great fun. We celebrated birthdays, Fireworks night, Diwali, Christmas, Hannakah. We wrote birthday and Christmas cards, letters to Father Christmas, instructions on how to play party games, shopping lists, labels for presents. We designed patterned wrapping paper, and a sleigh for Santa. We learnt how to wrap presents and created super artistic displays in response to what we had learnt.
In Literacy we have enjoyed listening to stories such as Maisy’s Birthday, The Jolly Postman. The Jolly Christmas Postman and The Nativity.
In Maths we have practised our number recognition, counting accurately and begun to use the language for adding and subtracting. We have compared objects and pictures by size, using language such as larger than, taller than, bigger than, small than, shorter than, etc. Through using our Post Office role play we have begun to use money and counted out the correct number of 1ps we needed to buy a stamp.
Through our continuous provision we have continued to develop our social skills, imaginative play, fine and gross motor skills and demonstrated that we can apply what we have been learning.
Our next topic is 'Once Upon a Time' and we look forward to exploring Traditional Stories such as The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and many more.
Please follow the links under the headings on the right to explore what we will be learning and try out ideas which can support your child.
Please also look the DfE campaign: Hungry Little Minds – Parents play a crucial role in their children's early language development, and this three-year campaign is to encourage parents and carers to engage in activities that support their child's early learning and help set them up for school and beyond.
