We are delighted to announce that St Mary’s has been awarded a Silver Level ArtsMark by the Arts Council! ArtsMark is an award for creative arts within schools. This is a very big achievement and something we will be celebrating along with other schools in our Multi Academy Trust who have been working towards an award.
St Mary’s has been working towards this for the past two years and has participated in projects at The Marina and Seagull Theatres, The Grit Project and Latitude Festival.
Looking ahead, we will be taking a more active role in the First Light Festival next summer and Miss Wharrier will be introducing an Arts Award project for children in Year 2 and Year 4.
More creative updates to follow!
The Arts are a crucial part of a rich and balanced education. As part of our ethos we believe that our pupils should have a variety of experiences with subjects such as Music, Art, Drama to stimulate their creativity, broaden their horizons and celebrate the unique way in which the Arts contribute to a rounded and effective education.
The arts are central to our curriculum in enabling our children to express their individual values and to celebrate each other’s gifts.
As a ‘Wild Beach’ School we work closely with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust to enable our pupils to develop a passion for the natural world and our responsibilities to care for it. We plan to use the Artsmark as a focus for expressing our ideas about the natural world through a wide variety of media.
We are also working in partnership with the other schools in the SJB Catholic Multi Academy Trust. We are excited by all the wonderful activities that our pupils will undertake as we work towards the award together.
